Submitting a Script

Every play arrives at a different stage of its journey.

Some writers send a first draft, wanting to know whether the foundation is sound. Others have already been through readings, workshops, and revisions and are looking for another perspective before taking the next step. Sometimes there is a specific question in mind. Sometimes the only certainty is the feeling that something is not yet working.

Whether your manuscript is complete or still evolving, the submission process is much the same. I will read the script carefully, prepare a structured written assessment, and return it to you with observations intended to help you better understand the play that already exists.

What to Send

“Literally may be the most thorough and well thought out [feedback] I’ve ever gotten.”

— Nate Currier
playwright

Scripts may be submitted as either PDF or Microsoft Word documents.

I am happy to read complete plays, partial drafts, individual acts, or selected scenes, depending upon the needs of your project.

If there are particular questions or concerns you would like me to keep in mind while reading, please include a brief note with your submission. If not, that is perfectly fine as well.

Assessment Fees

To keep the process straightforward, I use a simple page-length fee structure.

  • Short Play (up to approximately 30 pages): $35
  • One-Act Length Script (approximately 31–75 pages): $60
  • Full-Length Script (approximately 76 pages and above): $90

A Note on Fees

I never want cost alone to prevent a playwright from seeking thoughtful feedback on a project that matters to them. If the assessment fee would create a genuine hardship, or if you are currently a student, please feel free to contact me. We may be able to find an arrangement that works for both of us.

Types of Plays

The page ranges above are intended simply as practical guidelines rather than rigid categories. Every play finds its own natural length.

If your manuscript falls substantially outside these general ranges, please contact me before submitting.

A Note About Musicals

My script assessment work focuses on straight plays, comedies, dramas, farces, and other spoken theatrical forms.

Although I have acted, sung, danced, and choreographed in musical theatre, I do not offer dramaturgical assessment for musicals. The relationship between book, score, and audience expectation creates a distinct form, and I believe playwrights are best served by working with someone whose practice is centered in that discipline.

Payment

Payment may be made by Venmo, Zelle, or personal check.

Please submit payment when submitting your script. Once both your manuscript and payment have been received, I will confirm that everything has arrived safely and provide an estimated completion date for your assessment.

Checks: Please make checks payable to Richard Pallaziol.

Sending Your Script

“… the amount of effort and care that has gone into this feedback … rather rare feeling that one is not sending into the void.”

— A. S.
